Three Strands is a 90-day, wilderness-based addiction treatment program for young adult males (18-27 years old). Located on a 1,378-acre working ranch in Steamboat Springs, CO, Three Strands uses a trauma-informed treatment approach and cutting-edge clinical modalities to address the unique challenges of addiction and mental health disorders.
Living and working on the ranch, clients learn to cope with the challenges of everyday life and thrive in a lifestyle of recovery and purpose. Ranch life requires hard work and commitment, problem-solving and creativity, care and thoughtfulness. It requires accountability, integrity, honesty, and courage—all principles at the core of Three Strands’ mission.
The ranch experience provides the foundation needed for clients to get the most out of the next step—the 30-day wilderness expedition. Led by trained wilderness recovery specialists, this immersive outdoor experience is designed to both challenge and inspire. From the mountaintops of Colorado, clients gain confidence and find out how strong they really are.
Every step of the way, Three Strands’ hands-on, experiential model of care is supported by in-house comprehensive clinical services. From the moment you set foot on the ranch, you are part of the Three Strands family and we welcome you—and your loved ones—to the journey of recovery.

Why 3 Strands?
Three Strands is a privately-owned treatment program designed to provide world-class treatment in a nurturing, home-like environment. Our 1,378-acre ranch in the heart of the Rocky Mountains provides a safe, comfortable, and peaceful space for recovery to begin.
Treatment at Three Strands starts with a 60-day ranch-based stay and ends with a 30-day therapeutic wilderness expedition. Every client’s journey is personalized to meet their individual needs and is fully supported by our in-house clinical care team. We treat young adult males (18-25) struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders, treating the mind, body, and spirit as one.
Our team has a deep, personal connection to the services we provide and is dedicated to serving individuals and their families with the highest quality of care. Every client is treated with dignity and respect—and every family becomes part of ours. Our family and community systems model works hard to help individuals transition from our ranch to healthy environments where they can utilize the skills they learned and thrive in a purpose-driven life.
At Three Strands, we help our clients to find joy in recovery and to build a life driven by Hope. Grit. Healing.
